Job Description Summary WVNCC seeks applicants for Student Care Specialist/Success Coach. This is an on-campus position on the New Martinsville Campus.
Engage and support students with a holistic, wrap-around model incorporating non-cognitive assessment and comprehensive educational planning, and proactive referrals. Collaborate and connect students to appropriate existing departments and outside resources, such as the ACTion Center, Academic Resource Center, and Student Services. Outreach will be conducted through intrusive interventions, timely reminders and other targeted individual and group communications using phone, email, texting and social media. Promptly act on information from faculty, staff, and predictive analytics regarding student academic concerns. Plan and implement appropriate interventions. Proactively work with students to direct them to interventions. Encourage and advocate for students persistently. Monitor individual and aggregate data numbers and track outcomes of interventions. Maintain clearly written comprehensive notes and data on students in electronic files.
50% of position - Assist current students, potential students, employees, and the general public in a courteous and professional manner by answering questions, providing information, and/or directing to the proper departments. Provide cashiering functions and student account and student payment arrangement processes college-wide.

Responsibilities and Duties include but are not limited to Student Care & Success Assistant:
- Maintain professional, well-organized, customer-friendly service while providing current up-to-date information to all current and prospective students, employees, and the public.
- Assist with new student processes
- Answer incoming calls and answer frontline questions
- Provide support for campus faculty, student activities and community event functions.
- Provide and track issuance of parking passes.
- Sort incoming mail, as well as collection and organization of outgoing mail.
- Process business office transactions.
- Assist academic advisors with scheduling of appointments, scheduling and setting up prospective students who need testing when test administrator is not available.
- Update changes to the information on the campus message boards.
- Opening and closing of Banner procedures, counting money drawer, composing daily cash report, and securing personal area.
- Respond to email inquiries on a daily basis
Student Admission, Registration, and Orientation process:
- Enters applications as needed.
- Follows up with students after application and acceptance process to assist with enrollment process.
- Provides tours and other support as needed during open houses, orientations, and other on-campus and virtual registration events.
- Serves as knowledge base of college programs and services to connect students with appropriate personnel.
- Makes proactive contact with students who have missing and/or incomplete information for registration processes.
Coaching students, including
- Builds rapport and trust with students, faculty, and staff to support successful goal completion.
- Assist students with setting goals and identifying, planning for, and overcoming potential obstacles.
- Monitors student progress toward goals.
- Help students recognize and problem solve issues that arise related to progress towards academic goals, persistence, and attendance.
- Connect students to existing departments and community resources.
- Contacts instructor for ORNT, ENG, and MATH to request permission to explain what Success Coaching is for students during classes.
- Promptly act on information from faculty, staff, and predictive analytics regarding student academic concerns.
- Empowers students to problem solve issues that arise related to progress towards academic goals, persistence, and attendance.
- Utilizes motivational interviewing and other coaching methods to encourage student to modify or adopt behaviors that in result in academic and professional success.
Reporting:
- Maintain clearly written comprehensive notes and data on students in electronic files.
- Monitor individual and aggregate data numbers and track outcomes of interventions.
- Monthly reporting of time and effort submitted to Title III Project Director.
